Responding to public concerns, Health Minister Greg Hunt announced changes on Wednesday that will allow users of the digital MyHealthRecord to delete their electronic records profile, to manage directly what agencies can read their data and to protect records from access without a court order.
In a separate story, the Office of the Australia Information Commissioner (OAIC) on Tuesday stated that the private health and financial sectors suffered the most data breaches in Australia in the second quarter of 2018. Cyber-attacks were the biggest source of breaches, but human error also played a major part.
The quarterly notifiable data breaches report found that malicious or criminal attacks accounted for 59% of data breaches mainly due to compromised credentials, while the most common human error was emailing personal information to the wrong recipient.
