The Warren Centre’s Chair Richard (Dick) Kell was awarded the Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Medal at the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards in Brisbane on Tuesday, 23 November.
Dick began practising engineering in 1960 and built his own engineering firm, which merged with Cardno. He led Cardno as Chairman of the Board and then Executive Director after the company’s ASX listing in 2004. In 1998, Dick was named a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) especially for his service to the engineering profession, his expertise in bridge engineering, and his profile internationally.
Dick is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering (ATSE), and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia. Dick serves on the board of the Dispute Resolution Board Australia is and the Past President 2003-05 of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, FIDIC.
Previous winners of the Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Medal include John Grill, Martin Thomas, Mike Dureau, Graeme Jameson, John Nutt, Rolf Prince, William Tyree, John Jacob Crew Bradfield, John Monash and William Henry Warren.
