2021: “No driver required”. The Ford Motor Co this week confirmed its commitment of $4bn in autonomous cars technology development which will be spent over the next five years.
A subsidiary called Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC will be based in Corktown, Michigan to reinforce Detroit’s resurgence in the auto industry.
The enterprise will be led by Sherif Marakby, a Ford vice president who spent a year heading Uber’s autonomous vehicle program before rejoining Ford in 2017.
About 2,500 employees will be committed to the Corktown emerging mobility team.
